An implant-supported bridge replaces multiple missing teeth using dental implants for support instead of relying on adjacent natural teeth. Unlike a traditional bridge that grinds down healthy neighboring teeth to create anchors, an implant bridge is held in place by titanium posts fused directly to the jawbone through osseointegration.

At A-Dental Center in North Hollywood, Dr. Fadi Elzayat, DDS, FICOI, provides fixed implant bridge solutions for patients from North Hollywood, Burbank, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, and the San Fernando Valley. Every case is planned with Cone Beam 3D imaging and performed in-house by Dr. Elzayat personally, with no referrals to outside surgeons.

Quick Answers

Most Common Questions, Answered Directly

What is an implant-supported bridge?

A fixed tooth replacement using dental implants as anchors, not adjacent teeth. The bridge is permanent, has no removable parts, and preserves the jawbone beneath it. It looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth.

Is an implant bridge better than a traditional bridge?

Yes for most patients. No healthy teeth are ground down. Bone is preserved beneath the restoration. It lasts significantly longer. A traditional bridge typically lasts 10 to 15 years before replacement. An implant bridge can last a lifetime with proper care.

How long does an implant bridge last?

15 to 25 years with proper care. The titanium implants themselves are designed to be permanent. The porcelain crown component may need replacement after 15 to 20 years, depending on wear and care habits.

Can an implant bridge replace dentures?

Yes. Many patients with removable partial dentures switch to implant bridges for superior stability, comfort, and bone preservation. For patients missing a full arch, All-on-4 is the implant-supported alternative to full dentures.

Why It Works

Why Choose an Implant-Supported Bridge?

Implant bridges outperform traditional bridges and partial dentures across every category that matters for long-term oral health: bone preservation, longevity, stability, and protecting the teeth you still have.

🔒

Fixed and Permanent

No removal at night. No adhesive. No movement when eating or speaking. The bridge is screwed or cemented to your implants and stays in place 24 hours a day.

🦴

Preserves the Jawbone

Implants stimulate bone the same way tooth roots do. This prevents the bone shrinkage that accelerates with dentures and traditional bridges, keeping your facial structure intact long-term.

🛡️

No Damage to Healthy Teeth

Traditional bridges require grinding down adjacent healthy teeth to serve as anchors. An implant bridge uses only the implants. Neighboring teeth stay completely untouched.

Natural Appearance

Custom-crafted to match your existing teeth in shade, shape, and size. Patients consistently report that others cannot tell which teeth are the restoration.

🍖

Full Chewing Force Restored

Because the implants are anchored directly in the bone, bite force is fully restored. Most patients can eat any food they want, including hard, crunchy, and chewy foods.

💰

Better Long-Term Value

A traditional bridge typically needs replacement every 10 to 15 years. An implant bridge lasts 15 to 25+ years. When you account for replacements, implant bridges often cost less over a 20-year horizon.

What Our Patients Say

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

No — implant-supported bridges are fixed and permanent. They are attached to the implants and function exactly like natural teeth. You brush and floss normally and never remove them. This is one of the primary advantages over partial dentures, which must be removed for cleaning and can become loose over time.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and sedation is available for anxious patients. Most patients report the procedure is more comfortable than anticipated. Post-operative soreness at the implant sites is normal for 2-4 days and managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients return to normal activities within 2-3 days.

Osseointegration — the fusion of the implant with the jawbone — takes 3-6 months. During this time you will have a temporary restoration. Once fusion is confirmed with 3D imaging, the permanent bridge is fabricated and placed. The entire process from consultation to final bridge typically takes 5-8 months.

Smoking significantly increases the risk of implant failure and infection. However, patients who quit smoking before surgery and maintain abstinence during healing have substantially better outcomes. Dr. Elzayat will evaluate your specific situation and provide honest guidance on candidacy and risk during your free consultation.

After the healing period is complete, an implant-supported bridge functions like natural teeth — you can eat virtually anything. During the healing phase (first 1-2 weeks after surgery), stick to soft foods. After osseointegration, the bridge handles full chewing forces. Hard candies and non-food items like ice and bottle caps should always be avoided to protect any restoration.

Clean under and around your implant bridge daily using floss threaders, water flossers, or interdental brushes to remove plaque from under the bridge and around the implant abutments. Normal toothbrushing twice daily is also essential. See Dr. Elzayat for professional cleanings every 6 months so the team can use specialized instruments to clean around the implant components.

Implant failure is uncommon with a 95%+ success rate, but can occur due to infection (peri-implantitis), insufficient bone, smoking, uncontrolled systemic conditions, or mechanical overload. Regular check-ups allow early detection. A failed implant can often be replaced after healing. At A-Dental Center, every implant is monitored at follow-up appointments.

For most patients with multiple missing teeth, yes. An implant bridge preserves bone, provides superior stability, protects adjacent healthy teeth, and lasts significantly longer than traditional bridges. Most patients report the restoration feels and functions completely naturally. The long-term cost-effectiveness, when considering the need for traditional bridge replacement, favors implant bridges.

Yes. A-Dental Center offers nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation for implant procedures in North Hollywood. Sedation allows you to remain comfortable and deeply relaxed throughout surgery without being unconscious. Many patients remember very little of the procedure. Dr. Elzayat will recommend the most appropriate sedation level based on your health history and anxiety level.

For patients missing all or most teeth in an arch, All-on-4 is often a better solution than an implant bridge — using just 4 implants to support a full arch prosthetic. Dr. Elzayat will evaluate whether an implant bridge or All-on-4 is more appropriate based on how many teeth you are missing, your bone structure, and your goals.

Zirconia is a premium ceramic material that is stronger, more biocompatible, and more natural-looking than porcelain-fused-to-metal bridges. Zirconia does not contain metal so there is no grey line at the gumline. It is also more resistant to chipping and staining. The higher cost of zirconia is typically offset by improved aesthetics and durability. Dr. Elzayat will discuss material options at your consultation.

In select cases where bone quality is excellent and implants achieve high stability at placement, a temporary bridge can be placed the same day as surgery. This is not always possible — it depends on your bone density and the stability of the implants at time of placement. Dr. Elzayat will advise whether same-day temporaries are an option during your consultation.

Cost varies based on the number of implants, the length of the bridge, whether bone grafting is needed, and the material chosen. Dr. Elzayat provides a detailed written cost estimate at your free consultation. PPO insurance may cover a portion, and CareCredit and Cherry financing are available. Call (818) 593-0700 to schedule.

Many PPO dental plans provide partial coverage for implant-supported bridges — often covering the crown portion, a percentage of the surgical fee, or related extractions. Coverage varies by plan. A-Dental Center’s team performs a pre-authorization before treatment begins so you know exactly what your plan contributes.

Multiple missing teeth create a cascading effect: neighboring teeth shift into the gaps, changing your bite and smile. Jawbone at each missing tooth site resorbs (shrinks) progressively. This can lead to facial shape changes, difficulty chewing, speech issues, and making future implant placement more complex and expensive. Early replacement with implants preserves bone and prevents these complications.
