Helping Hollywood patient’s care for Invisalign aligners

Posted on: 2016-07-26

invisalign woman with bracesCongratulations! You’ve taken a big step toward enhancing your smile with Invisalign orthodontic straightening. We’ve made impressions of your teeth, generated computerized 3D images for each stage of progress, and created custom aligners. Now it is time to talk about keeping your aligners clear, and your mouth clean and odor-free while you straighten. My patients in the Hollywood area are typically very pleased with Invisalign results, especially when they develop these healthy hygiene habits early into the treatment plan.

It is time to rise and shine, knowing that you will look great all day while Invisalign gently moves your teeth into attractive positions.

  • Remove your aligners when you get up.
  • Rinse one with tepid water (never use hot water, which could warp the plastic).
  • Brush it gently with a soft toothbrush reserved for this purpose, and a little liquid anti-bacterial hand soap. Unscented is best, and be sure that the soap is clear – colored soap may stain the aligners. Do not clean aligners with toothpaste or the toothbrush you use for your teeth. Abrasive particle from toothpaste scratch the plastic material, leaving grooves that trap discoloration and germs.
  • Rinse the aligner again.
  • Repeat this process with the other aligner.
  • Place both aligners on a clean towel or in their storage case while you brush your teeth normally.
  • Re-insert aligners immediately.

Before and after meals

  • Remove aligners before eating or drinking anything other than plain water. Chewing can damage aligners, and pigments in foods and beverages stain the plastic.
  • If possible, rinse aligners with cool water before placing them in their storage case.
  • Do not wrap aligners in a napkin. They are likely to be misplaced or thrown in the trash.
  • Ideally, brush your teeth after eating. If you cannot brush immediately, swish with fresh water before reinserting your aligners.

  • Brush aligners as you do in the morning.
  • Sanitize your aligners with a soak in denture or retainer cleaner. Even better, use Invisalign’s cleaning crystals.
  • While aligners are immersed, brush your teeth and floss thoroughly.
  • Rinse aligners, and re-insert them right away. It is important to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day for efficient straightening. This method avoids falling asleep while they soak.

These simple hygiene steps keep your breath sweet and aligners invisible, protecting your investment in a beautiful smile. Call A-Dental Center in Hollywood at 818-593-0700 for more information on Invisalign treatment.

Flossing dental bridges: North Hollywood dentist gives step-by-step instructions

Posted on: 2016-07-26

Senior Woman with dental bridges smilingMany patients today are opting for dental implants to replace missing teeth. However, dental bridges are still a sound solution for others who are not good candidates for, or simply do not want dental implants. Keeping a dental bridge clean is critical to your oral health and the lifespan of the restoration. One of the questions I often get with regard to dental bridges, from my North Hollywood patients, is how to floss properly. It isn’t difficult – it just takes the right tools and a little practice.

Flossing a dental bridge

  • Brush your teeth, bridge, and tongue thoroughly but gently. Use a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste.
  • Because the dental bridge consists of several attached “teeth,” it is impossible to slide floss between them in the usual manner. A floss threader is a loop of stiff nylon thread with a soft, blunt tip. Threaders are inexpensive, and readily available at drug and retail stores.
  • Position yourself close to a mirror so you can see what you are doing.
  • Pull about half of an 18-inch length of your usual dental floss through the loop of the threader.
  • Place the tip of the threader just below the contact point of two of the teeth in the bridge, at the gum line.
  • For a bridge in the upper arch, aim slightly downward by raising the loop of the threader just a bit. Do the opposite (aim upward) for a bridge in the lower arch.
  • Push the threader through to the inside of the mouth.
  • Remove the threader, leaving a single thickness of floss in place.
  • Move the floss under back and forth to clean the underside of the bridge, and up and down at the sides.
  • Slide the floss out of the opening.
  • Floss remaining teeth, including those adjacent to the bridge, normally.
  • Some patients find added benefit from use of a water flosser (oral irrigation device) such as a WaterPik. Be aware, though, that this treatment does NOT eliminate the need for conventional flossing.

Why worry about cleaning a bridge?

The pontic, or artificial tooth, in your bridge and the crowns that hold it in place are made of porcelain, so they cannot develop cavities. Natural tooth structure under the crowns, however, is susceptible to tooth decay. Negligent oral hygiene could lead to the need for more extensive dental work in the future. Plaque traps bits of food debris under the bridge, providing a feast for oral bacteria. Without thorough daily cleaning, gum disease may begin in this area and eventually spread to the rest of the mouth.

Hollywood area dentist describes why dental implants are one of the best tooth restoration solutions

Posted on: 2016-06-10

dental implant pictureMissing teeth may be caused by poor oral hygiene, disease, or injury to the mouth. Regardless of how it happens, Dr. Fadi Edmond Elzayat and his team at A-Dental Center can provide a solution for replacement. Our practice offers three methods of tooth replacement – dental bridges, dentures, and dental implants. However, there is no “one size fits all” solution for every case of tooth loss. Dr. Fadi Edmond Elzayat will often suggest dental implants whenever he can because he feels they are the best option for most patients.

Dental implants can be used by North Hollywood area patients to replace one or more teeth. When used alone, the dental implant can replace a single tooth. It is installed into the bone of the jaw and then restored over the top with a dental crown to function as a false tooth. However, it looks completely natural within the dental arch. If patients need to anchor a dental bridge, they may also use dental implants. Dental implants are placed for patients who choose implant-supported dentures. Four to six implants are strategically placed into the bone of the jaw along the dental arch and the full denture is made to snap into place over the implants for stability and strength.

There are several benefits to using dental implants. First, they help in maintaining the bone. They use the bone to hold the restoration in place, but they also stimulate bone growth. This keeps patients from developing that “sunken in” appearance they may get if they were to choose traditional full dentures without implants. Second, with proper care, patients may enjoy their implants the rest of their lives. Implant procedures are 99 percent successful. Third, dental implants look and function just like natural teeth. They do not require any special care or attention. Patients are still urged to visit their dentist at least twice a year for an examination and to have their restorations evaluated by a professional.

Dentistry practice in North Hollywood welcomes you and your family

Dr. Fadi Edmond Elzayat and his team work closely with patients to help them achieve the smiles they’ve always wanted. He works with both children and adults for better oral health. His practice has a wide range of services for those located in the North Hollywood area including the following treatment options:

  • Dentures – dentures include full and partial dentures and are made from high quality materials by our outside dental laboratory.
  • Dental implants – the “gold standard” in tooth replacement is dental implants. These titanium posts are restored with crowns, bridges, or dentures to replace missing teeth.
  • Bone grafting – patients considering dental implants require enough bone for successful placement. Bone grafting is an option for those who are not appropriate for implants due to bone loss.
  • Fillings – when cavities form, it is important to obtain metal-free fillings. Composite resin is used to repair the tooth and keep the decay from progressing.
  • Inlays and onlays – these porcelain restorations are used to replace areas of tooth enamel with a structurally sound solution.
  • Crowns – dental crowns are versatile and used in many dental situations. They are fabricated to match the existing teeth for seamless integration into the smile.
  • Bridges – a middle-of-the-road solution for patients seeking an affordable yet permanent solution for tooth loss.
  • Veneers – these thin ceramic facings are bonded onto the front of the teeth to cover up imperfections and provide a more beautiful smile quickly and easily.
  • Teeth whitening – a bright smile speaks volumes when it comes to first impressions. Patients may enjoy either in-office or take-home whitening trays in our practice.
  • Invisalign – skip the visit to the orthodontist and work with Dr. Fadi Edmond Elzayat to improve the smile’s alignment with Invisalign. Invisalign is a special aligner treatment that can straighten the dental arch and enhance the smile.
  • Wisdom tooth extraction – the third molars, also known as the wisdom teeth, are often problematic for patients and can be removed in our practice. We provide both simple and surgical extractions.
  • Gum disease – Dr. Fadi Edmond Elzayat provides diagnosis, treatment, and prevention solutions for gum disease, also known as periodontal disease.

What patients need to know about at-home vs. in-office teeth whitening

Posted on: 2015-11-10

before and after teeth whitingMaintaining your oral health is important to good overall health, which has an impact on your quality of life and personal image. When a look in the mirror doesn’t reveal that same radiant smile you used to have, you might want to consider teeth whitening options. Even a glance into this topic will yield many choices, and knowing which one is right for you may be very confusing. Dr. Fadi Edmond Elzayat and the A-Dental Center staff are happy to share advice regarding retail vs. professional, at-home vs. in-office, and other details that will lead to the teeth whitening method best suited for your individualized need.

To brighten your smile quickly and professionally in our office, we use the Zoom! teeth whitening system. You will experience immediate results by spending as little as an hour in our office. This process is desirable because it is administered by experienced dental staff, and techniques are employed to give you the most comfortable experience and satisfying outcome. Your teeth will be professionally cleaned by our hygienist first to allow optimal effectiveness of the whitening agent. If you are prone to sensitivity from teeth whitening products, you may find this process preferable. You will attain dramatic results quickly because of the stronger agents at work, but also feel at ease knowing they are being administered by trained professionals. Any concerns with matching the color to existing dental work, such as crowns and bridges, are placed in our competent hands, as well, ensuring dazzling results.

If you are interested in a more gradual result, we also offer an at-home process. This system is done in the privacy of your own home. It still, however, far exceeds what you can expect from products bought in a retail store. Our take-home system is customized for you, so that you have input upfront and know what results to anticipate, rather than the entire process being an experiment with a random store product. You may also enjoy the benefit of being able to continue to use the system as desired over time to help you maintain your results from the initial whitening treatment.

A radiant smile is best kept by practicing regular oral hygiene. Consistent care at home, such as brushing and flossing, is extremely important, as are regular visits with your dentist. We invite you to schedule your next appointment with A-Dental Center and consult us regarding teeth whitening options or questions. We want to keep your smile bright for years to come!

I called A-dental on Tuesday 10/23 almost to tears with pain I was experiencing from one of my many cavaties. I knew I had cavaties because I had been to a different dentist who I just wasnt comfortable with. Anyways, right from the minute Edith answered the phone I knew I would be in good hands. I figured they would take me in either the day after or near future but she was able to squeeze me in right away.

I am so glad that I switched over to this dental office! They are always extremely thorough in their check-ups, using all of the latest equipment (it's amazing how many offices let their equipment go far, far out of date due to the cost of updating it!).

This place was amazing. I had an infected impacted wisdom tooth that was spreading to my head. The cost of the procedure to take this infected tooth out was too expensive for me and i didn't insurance and had to pay out of pocket. They worked with me on the cost so I could afford it. They didn't try and rob me of every nickel I had which a lot of other dental offices do. It was one of a few places I have been to where I felt like they actually cared more about my well being than money. The whole staff was incredibly nice and accomodating.

He even calls to check up on you later that evening to make sure you aren't having any problems or in any pain. Dr Elzayat and all staff you rock!
