Porcelain dental crowns from your North Hollywood dentist accomplish two important goals
When tooth damage is causing you pain, your first priority is to regain comfort. This comes from restorative care in which damaged tooth material is removed and natural structure is replicated via a filling or dental crown. While function and comfort are certainly important, we understand that our patients also have a need for an attractive smile.
Dental crowns for restored function
For decades, residents of North Hollywood would visit their dentist for restoration with crowns made of gold or some type of metal alloy. These materials may still be used today. In most cases, however, they are made more attractive through an overlay of tooth-colored material. Patients of A-Dental Center may choose tooth repair with durable, highly attractive porcelain crowns that restore the necessary strength a damaged tooth needs to remain functional for years.
A streamlined process to restore your smile
Dr. Elzayat works very carefully to restore a tooth to its most functional condition. After we administer local anesthetic to numb the area, damaged tooth material can be gently removed. The tooth is then shaped so that the crown can fit over it. After we take impressions for the crown, we will determine the appropriate color for your new restoration by determining the shade of surrounding teeth. While your final crown is being made in our dental lab, you will wear a temporary crown that will keep the tooth protected.
Typically, the new crown is ready for placement in about two weeks. The temporary crown is removed and the area around the tooth is cleaned of any cement from that restoration. The final crown is put into place and we assess fit and bite. Once this restoration is affixed over the damaged tooth, it can remain functional and beautiful for more than a decade.
The repair of damage is just one instance in which a dental crown may be recommended. This restorative treatment is also advisable for patients who undergo root canal therapy, necessary to stop infection in the center of a tooth. Because the nerves and blood vessels are removed in this procedure, the remaining natural tooth structure may become brittle and vulnerable to fracture. Placing an attractive, durable crown over the treated tooth protects it from damage.
